After breakfast, visit Tiananmen Square , largest public square in the world. Then enter The Forbidden City – home to Chinese Emperors for more than 500 years, and now converted into a huge museum. After lunch, visit the Temple of Heaven , one of the best examples of Ming Dynasty architecture in Beijing . Attend a welcome banquet featuring Beijing Roast Duck in the evening.

Day 4 Beijing (AB/L/D)
Your highlight today is an excursion to the Great Wall. Enjoy the dramatic vistas and marvel at the Wall as it climbs and descends steep ridges and narrow valleys. After lunch visit the Summer Palace , where the Empress Dowager Ci Xi would go to escape the heat of the city.

Day 5 Beijing / Xi'an (AB/L/D)
After breakfast, enjoy a pedicab tour of the Hutongs, the “old city” neighbourhood of narrow alleyways and courtyard gardens hidden behind Beijing 's modern façade. Visit Prince Gong's Palace, the Drum Tower , and old-style courtyard houses still inhabited by Beijing residents. Transfer to the airport for your midday flight to Xi'an , and transfer to the Hyatt Hotel (5-star) or similar. In the afternoon you'll visit the Ancient City Walls.

Day 6 Xi'an (AB/L/SD)
Today's highlight is a visit to the Archaeological Museum, home to more than 6,000 life-size terra-cotta warriors and horses excavated from the tomb of the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty.
After lunch, visit Xian's Big Wild Goose Pagoda. In the evening, attend a Tang Dynasty dinner show, which recreates the music, costume and dance from one of China 's most culturally rich eras.

Day 7 Xian / Chongqing (AB/L/D)
After breakfast visit the Grand Mosque and explore the quaint neighbourhood surrounding it. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Chongqing . Upon arrival, enjoy a city tour including Erling Park , then board China Regal Cruises ( 4-star) after dinner.

Day 8-9-10 Yangtze River (AB/L/D)
Spend these next few days cruising downstream through the magnificent scenery of the famous Three Gorges area, including shore excursions to Fengdu, Shennong Stream and the Three Gorges Dam Project.

Day 11 Wuhan / Shanghai (AB/L)
Disembark in Wuhan at noon . Transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai . Upon arrival, transfer to the Central Hotel (4 star) or similar. Enroute you'll explore The Bund, famous promenade along the Huangpu River . Tonight's dinner is on your own to explore some of Shanghai 's many dining options.

Full day tour of Shanghai including the fabulous Shanghai Museum , with galleries devoted to all the Chinese traditional arts. Continue to Yu Garden, renowned classical Chinese garden, and Old Shanghai Bazaar for shopping. After tonight's Farewell Dinner enjoy a Chinese Acrobatic Performance. You'll be amazed by the displays of balance and agility.

Day 13 Shanghai / San Francisco (AB)

Start your tour of Shanghai with a visit to Nanjing Road , bustling with shoppers, and The Bund, picturesque promenade along the Huangpu River . The Bund is a great place for people watching, and you will have the opportunity to relax and take in the sights. Continue to The Children's Palace, where gifted children go after school to study music, art, computer science and other skills. Your first stop this morning is the Shanghai Museum , known for its wonderful collection of Chinese art. Continue to beautiful Yu Yuan Garden, a classic of Chinese garden design. Stroll the lanes of the neighboring old Shanghai Bazaar, with its teashops, Chinese medicine, antiques and souvenirs. After dinner tonight you will enjoy a performance of Chinese acrobatics by Shanghai 's famous troupe.

Full day at leisure for shopping or further exploration.

Day 10 Guilin/Yangshuo (AB,L)

Today's excursion is a cruise along the beautiful Li River. Experience the magical beauty of limestone rock formations and farmland commonly seen in Chinese landscape paintings. Disembark at the charming village of Yangshuo , which has one of the best antique and craft markets in China . Browse at the market, or relax at one of the local cafes. Overnight at Yangshuo Paradise Resort (or similar).

Day 11 Yangshuo/Hong Kong (AB,L)

This morning you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the countryside, including a visit to Crescent Moon Hill with scenic vistas of the area. In the afternoon transfer back to Guilin airport and fly to Hong Kong , where you will be met and transferred to the Marco Polo Hotel (or similar).

Day 12 Hong Kong (AB,L)

Today's half day sightseeing tour gives an introduction to Hong Kong Island , including visits to Victoria Peak , Repulse Bay , Stanley Market and Aberdeen Fishing Village . Enjoy a dim sum lunch before returning to your hotel. Afternoon at leisure.
